Roland A. Winbeckler
Roland A. Winbeckler began his cake decorating career
in 1971. He worked in retail bakeries for 10 years, after which he started his
own company, CakeSuppliesPlus.com--A-J Winbeckler Enterprises, from which he and his wife Marsha produce
and sell their
instruction books, offer professional cake decorating
classes, and
market specialty cake decorating supplies and candy making supplies through
their web
site.
 Born in
1946, Roland resided in Kent, Washington, U.S.A. until 2003, when he moved to
Redding, California.
He was a double gold medal winner at the World Culinary Olympics held in
Frankfurt, Germany, in 1976. (Photo of one gold medal and accompanying plaque
are shown below.)
Roland is the author of several instruction and pattern books on cake decorating
which are available nationwide (U.S.) through cake decorating supply shops as
well as through A-J Winbeckler Enterprises.
He has written many articles for trade magazines dealing with the cake
decorating and bakery field including Bakery Production and Marketing and
American Cake Decorating.
Roland has been teaching professional cake decorating since 1975.
He has taught at the Culinary Institute of American in Hyde Park, New York,
as well as many other prestigious institutions.
Roland has also has been a featured demonstrator at national Retailer's Bakery Association
Conventions, the international cake decorators' conventions of the International
Cake Exploration Societé, and the 1991 Australian
National Convention.
He has been featured on several instructional video tapes produced for The
Retailer's Bakery Association as well as videos produced for the decorating
public.
Roland has appeared on national television several times on such programs as
"To Tell the Truth" and "You Asked for It" and on Food Network's
Sesame Street Cakes and TLC's Ultimate Cake Off to air October 19, 2009. He has been the
subject of numerous newspaper and magazine articles throughout the country.
He has created many life-sized cake sculptures for and/or of famous
personalities such as Cher, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Wayne Gretzky, Colonel
Sanders, Princess Diana, and others.
In 1992, Roland A. Winbeckler was inducted into the International Cake
Exploration Societé's (ICES) Cake Decorator's Hall of Fame.
Roland met his wife Marsha, also an accomplished decorator (Marsha's
cake photos), at the 1984 at an ICES (International Cake Exploration Societé)
convention.
Besides working with cake and icing, Roland enjoys creating many other types
of artwork and working with digital photography. And when possible, he and
Marsha enjoy riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycles around beautiful Northern
California.
